After Udhampur encounter, DIG Jammu reviews security in border districts | KNO

Jammu, Dec 17 (KNO): Following a recent encounter in Udhampur’s Majalta area, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Jammu-Samba-Kathua range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, on Wednesday reviewed the security situation in border districts of Kathua and Samba. According to the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) the DIG accompanied by SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma and SSP Samba Varinder Manhas, visited Billawar area in Kathua district, which shares border with Majalta of Udhampur where a policeman was killed in a gunfight with terrorists in Soan area on Monday evening. An official said that he also visited Kamla Top in Billawar and reviewed security arrangements. The DIG directed officials to remain extra vigilant and deploy additional forces in sensitive areas. During the review meeting, the DIG, as per the officials, emphasised the need to maintain peace and security and underlined the importance of close coordination among various security agencies to tackle emerging challenges effectively. DIG Sharma reviewed the deployment of forces and ordered additional forces to be stationed in sensitive and vulnerable areas to prevent any untoward incidents, the officials said, adding that he also stressed strengthening intelligence gathering and timely sharing of information to counter potential security threats. The DIG instructed officers to maintain high visibility in their respective jurisdictions and intensify security checks and patrolling, the officials said, adding, SSP Kathua briefed him on the prevailing security situation and measures taken to maintain peace and law and order in the Billawar area.
